The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to work safely with hazardous substances in the workplace.

Key Objectives:

• Understand the hazards of hazardous substances: Learn about the different types of hazardous substances (e.g., chemicals, dusts, fumes, vapors) and their potential health effects (e.g., respiratory problems, skin irritation, cancer).
• Learn to identify and assess risks: Develop the ability to identify and evaluate the risks associated with exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace.
• Understand control measures: Learn about various control measures to minimize exposure to hazardous substances, such as substitution, engineering controls (e.g., ventilation, enclosure), administrative controls (e.g., work practices, procedures), and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Learn to use and maintain PPE: Acquire knowledge of the selection, use, and maintenance of appropriate PPE, such as gloves, respirators, and eye protection.
• Understand relevant safety regulations and standards: Become familiar with legal and regulatory requirements for handling and storing hazardous substances.

  • Hierarchy of controls (elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE).
  • Selection and use of appropriate control measures.

  • Selection, use, and maintenance of PPE.
  • Limitations of PPE.
• Emergency Procedures:
  • Emergency procedures for spills, leaks, and accidents involving hazardous substances.
